Academic collaboration with The University of Nottingham

 

Cosmos Biomedical Ltd is delighted to announce the forthcoming availability of the “Virtual Microbiology Laboratory”, (VML) to complement the Microbiology Education Series, (MES). The VML will be available under license through Cosmos Biomedical’s unique collaboration with the University of Nottingham where the VML was designed and developed. The VML will be available in January 2008.

Medac VZV serology kits

Medac International announce the launch of the following products for the serological diagnosis of VZV:

• VZV-IgM-ELA. This assay is based on the µ-capture principle using enzyme labelled VZV antigen (ELA), the results are expressed as index values.
• VZV-IgA-ELISA. This quantitative assay contains IgG/Rf absorbant and based upon the medac Single-Point-Quantification (SPQ). Results are expressed as AU/ml. The IgA assay has been evaluated for the diagnosis of paired serum/CSF.
• VZV-IgG-ELISA. This quantitative assay is calibrated against the international reference preparation of the WHO. Results are expressed as mIU/ml. The IgG assay is based upon the medac Single-Point-Quantification (SPQ) and has been evaluated for the diagnosis of paired serum/CSF.

The test systems are compatible with the other medac ELISAs and are fully automatable. Results are software-assisted so are rapidly analysed including interpretation.

Tristel Duo incorporates patented chlorine dioxide chemistry combined with a highly effective cleaning action. It can kill all organisms on a surface with a contact time of only 30 seconds. It is rapidly effective against all the organisms that pose the threat of hospital acquired infection, including Clostridium difficile, MRSA, E.coli, Salmonella, Acinetobacter baumanii and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Biocidally, Tristel Duo is far superior to a wipe that uses triclosan, chlorhexidine gluconate, sodium hypochlorite (bleach), chlorine releasing compounds (NaDCC), alcohol, a quaternary ammonium compound (QAC), or combinations of alcohol and QACSs.
