MES Update 1

1. Registration Period

Cosmos Biomedical have extended the registration period from 12 Months to 15 months to allow registrants to complete existing activities. The price remains the same for existing registrants. This will come into effect from the date of re-registration. For example; if you registered in August 2010 you will be registered until November 2011.

2. MES Cards

Cosmos Biomedical have taken the decision to include MES cards as part of the web-text so that questions and text are located together for convenience. This will enable the scheme to run more efficiently online. Eventually the posted MES cards will be phased out in favour of the online versions. However, we will still continue to print MES cards for those registrants that wish to continue receiving them. Please note that from this date all current MES cards and crosswords are electronically available for registrants to view and download via the MES card index. (To save card image right click image and 'save as')

3. Re-registration

If you wish to continue participating in the MES scheme, please check your Cosmos Biomedical registration number which should contain the month and year of registration, for example; CB/CPD100-11-09 which corresponds to November 2009. Therefore the registrant should re-register by the end of November this year. The following period of registration will then be 15 months. We will not be sending out re-registration reminders so please check your MES registration has not expired. If your registration has expired then we will be unable to mark activities and award CPD points.

4. Password Protection

Cosmos Biomedical is now preparing to implement a secure MES site which will be password protected. Non-registrants and registrants whose registration period has expired will not be able to access the web-text or activities. Updates on the change-over will be given in the near future.

5. MES Updates

MES updates will be posted frequently to allow efficient communication to all registrants. Please check back regularly for important announcements.

6. New MES Activities

Cosmos Biomedical will be introducing a number of new MES activities specifically tailored to all aspects of laboratory work. Examples of these are as follows;

• Health and Saftey Issues
• Case Studies
• Control of Infection
• Diagnostic Techniques
• Quality Assurance / Quality Control
• Famous Microbiologists
• CPA Issues

These will become available from September 2010

7. Cosmos Biomedical

Cosmos Biomedical is officially authorised by the IBMS to award 3 CPD points for every completed activity. CPD certificates are normally sent out in batches. The decision has been taken, where possible, to scan certificates electronically and send them via email. For registrants who do not posess an email facility, we will continue to send written certificates via post.

8. Copyright and Trademark

Cosmos Biomedical have copyrighted and trademarked all facets of the MES Scheme including the above activities, MES Cards and related images. Only current registrants are authorised to download MES related materials. Unauthorised use of material or infringement of copyright may result in legal action.
